Analysing the National Indoor Championships creates an interesting snapshot of changes in the sport over the past 20 years.
You can see a dip due to Covid in 2021 and 2022.

For purposes I have three categories.
Youth: Under 21 combined
Open: 21-49
50: Over 50 age groups combined.

Looking at the trends for Open, 50+ and Youth you can see some distinct movements.
Open's growth is mostly from just the growth of the event with 2025 being 24 people above the average of 298.

Covid really skews the numbers for two years, but appears that it may have impacted the youth however. Girls has really grown which is a huge positive. A massive 31 increase on the average and a 64 increase on the worst non-Covid year. (38 in 2008 to 102 in 2025)
However the boys has dropped badly with a -42 on average and a -89 against the best year in 2017 of 189.
